Reasons Why Indian Housewives Want to Learn English
The language English has become more of a social status now than just a mean of communication. Knowing the language helps improve self-esteem and reduces inferiority complex. For housewives, learning English is a good idea as it can help boost their status at social gatherings and public spaces.
Communicating in English at social gatherings gives a sense of confidence to a housewife. It no longer feels bad seeing the working professionals and the others speak and mingle in English while you would struggle to even understand what they spoke about. You can now openly take part in conversations and not be afraid of being laughed at.
You can communicate in public spaces, say shops, with more confidence now. Going into social places with a modern crowd will not seem like a task now, because you know how to communicate, and no one can judge your status now. If going to classy places is something you like, but not being able to speak in English was a concern, then you won’t have to worry about this anymore since you know at least the basics of the language.
Communicating with family members now becomes easier. If your kids go to an English medium school and if your spouse works at a company that communicates in English, an inferiority complex is born. Family members start making fun of your English and sometimes, even criticise you for not knowing the language. Once you start learning the language though, notice how the self-esteem rises. You can now go to your spouse’s business parties and not have to be scared that they are going to judge you.
You can now help your family members with their work and can feel good about doing your part. You can read your kids’ books, spouse’s emails, and newspapers.
Most of all though, knowing the language helps lift your personality and self-esteem. You no longer feel left out and can get along with almost everyone now. Maybe this was the push you were looking for all along? And now that you know the most spoken language over the world, who says you cannot go chase your dreams?
