Why English is Important for Indian Markets
“Good communication is the bridge between confusion and clarity”.
English is the storehouse of scientific knowledge. The most common language in the world. Hence, the study of English is of great importance for a developing country like India. If you have noticed, most international trades and businesses successfully use communication for the betterment of their company. There are multiple reasons as to why we need English in our country’s markets, a few of them mentioned in this article.

The first is communication with clients. Any form of trade requires communication to move forward. Be it emails, texts or calls, having the right vocabulary and posture is necessary. If your company deals with international clients, then English, being a universal language, is required. You may think that because your job does not require you interacting with clients, you would not need this. But anything can happen, and you never know when you will be on the front-line directly in contact with a client.
The second is communication with the workforce. In a company, the workforce present come from all parts of the country, if not world. All of us communicate in different languages depending on the region we are from. If we were to bring multiple languages into a workspace, it would be utter chaos. Some would not understand a particular language while others would be against learning a new language. To prevent this, and streamline the communication process, having one common language, English, would improve company efficiency ten-fold. We could choose any language spoken by the majority in the workplace, but that would be unfair to the minority. It is like forcing one’s opinions and thoughts on another, and that is never appreciated.
Many international companies tend to hire Indians compared to the neighbouring countries, say China, for example. One of the main reasons is because Indians can adapt and follow instructions given more easily because many of us have at least a basic knowledge of the language. In some Chinese companies, they produce their output in the Chinese language. Since most of the other countries do not have Chinese as their main language, this tends to create a difficulty in communication. Indians however can manage to produce an output in the language required, because we are wired as hardworking.
Managing and sorting international affairs of the country also requires advanced level of communication and formality. We cannot expect other countries to learn a language that our leaders speak, just for this reason. A common ground must be reached, and this common ground, in this case, is through the English language. It eliminates the need of a mediator or translator and simplifies the discussion.
We can conclude that English as a language is of utmost importance for Indian markets. India’s foreign policy is the focus of attention over the world because of how it manages to keep the country’s interests in mind and at the same time takes other countries requirements into consideration. As a country with potential and growth, communication in English is one big step in the right direction and improving in this area will not only benefit the individual, but it will benefit the country as a whole.
